Introduction about chemical safety<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Many workplaces contain spaces that are considered \u201cconfined\u201d because their configurations hinder the activities of employees who must enter, work in, and exit them. A confined space has limited or restricted means for entry or exit, and it is not designed for continuous employee occupancy. Confined spaces include, but are not limited to underground vaults, tanks, storage bins, manholes, pits, silos, process vessels, and pipelines. OSHA uses the term \u201cpermit-required confined space\u201d (permit space) to describe a confined space that has one or more of the following characteristics: contains or has the potential to contain a hazardous atmosphere; contains a material that has the potential to engulf an entrant; has walls that converge inward or floors that slope downward and taper into a smaller area which could trap or asphyxiate an entrant; or contains any other recognized safety or health hazard, such as unguarded machinery, exposed live wires, or heat stress<\/p>\n

        The overall objective of this training is to protect those entering or working around a confined space. In this course you will learn the physical, chemical, and biological principles related to safe working with confined spaces. Objectives of this course are for the student to:<\/p>\n

        • Understand the scope & application of OSHA\u2019s various confined space entry standards<\/li>\n
        • Identify \u201cConfined Spaces\u201d, then determine if they are \u201cPermit Required\u201d<\/li>\n
        • Understand OSHA requirements for developing and maintaining a \u201cpermit-required confined space entry program\u201d<\/li>\n
        • Know responsibilities of entrants, attendants, entry supervisors, contractors<\/li>\n
        • Identify when you may utilize OSHA\u2019s \u201cAlternate Entry\u201d and \u201cReclassification\u201d procedures<\/li>\n
        • Understand the requirements for \u201cRescue & Emergency Services\u201d<\/li>\n
        • Have a basic knowledge of the general use and limitations of related equipment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            • Permit required and non-permit required entry procedures<\/li>\n
            • Air quality requirements and the use of ventilation equipment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              • Confined space rescue operations and equipment<\/li>\n
              • Thermal dangers<\/li>\n
              • Dealing with a rescue and debriefing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
